Über die Religion ist eines der bedeutendsten Werke des Theologen Friedrich Daniel Schleiermacher. Es wurde 1799 veröffentlicht und legte den Grundstein für seinen Ruf als 'Kirchenvater des 19. Jahrhunderts'. Schleiermacher erklärt darin seine Sicht darüber, was Religion ihrem Kern nach ist: Gefühl und Anschauung des Universums. Sie besteht unabhängig von Moral und Metaphysik. Auch die Ansätze einer Kirchenlehre und einer religiösen Bildungslehre werden behandelt. Über die Religion gilt als das religionsphilosophische Werk der Frühromantik, das den Protestantismus des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts nachhaltig geprägt hat. Friedrich Schleiermacher (1768-1834) war ein deutscher evangelischer Theologe, Altphilologe, Philosoph, Publizist, Staatstheoretiker, Kirchenpolitiker und Pädagoge.
