Die philosophische Gesamtanschauung von der menschlichen Seele, mit der ich den nervosen Charakter durchleuchtete, ist flir mich und einen groBen Kreis von Bekennern Weltanschauung und Menschenkennt­ nis geworden, der gegenliber jede andere Betrachtung des seelischen Ge­ schehens unrichtig oder llickenhaft erscheint. Zwischen den beiden Auflagen dieses Buches liegt der Weltkrieg mit seinen Fortsetzungen, liegt die furchtbarste Massenneurose, zu der sich unsere neurotisch-kranke Kultur, zerfressen von ihrem Machtstreben und ihrer Prestigepolitik, entschlossen hat. Der entsetzliche Gang der Zeit­ ereignisse bestiitigt schaurig die schlichten Gedankengange dieses Buches. Dnd er entschleiert sich als das diimonische Werk der allgemein ent­ fesseIten Herrschsucht, die das unsterbliche Gemeinschaftsgeflihl der Menschheit drosselt oder listig miBbraucht. • Dnsere Individuaipsychologie ist weit liber den toten Punkt beschrei­ bender Seelenkunde hinaus. In uuserem Sinne einen Menschen schauen und erkennen heiBt: ihn den Verirrungen seines wunden, aufgepeitschten, aber ohnmiichtigen Gottiihnlichkeitsstrebens entreiBen und der uner­ schlitterlicher Logik des menschlichen Zusammenlebens geneigt machen, dem Gemeins chaftsgefli h 1. Der Ausbau meiner Lehre hat einige Klarstellungen und Ergiinzungen im vorliegenden Bande notig gemacht. Aus dem gleichen Grunde solI in kurzer Zeit ein zweiter Band 1) erscheinen, der auBer wichtigen Vorar­ beiten einige notwendige Ergiinzungen und neue Arbeiten enthalten wird.
