A woman is accused of murdering her husband. On the other side of the city, former militants gather to overturn a charge of treason against one of them. One of these militants is the father of the accused woman, who will also be questioned in the case involving his own daughter.The novel traces half a century of Algerian history, from World War II to the early 1990s, passing through the War of Liberation and its aftermath. It sheds light on often unspoken social crises, such as generational divides, the gap between parents and children, failed marriages and their escape into secret relationships, motherhood and its challenges, as well as organ donation and trafficking-balancing between legal transgressions and the necessity of saving lives.With masterful storytelling, the novel portrays characters trapped by fate, whose lives seem to hinge on the arrival of a journalist from the capital.
