The Imperial City lies in ruins. The Emperor, at first so eager to seek vengeance, has not been seen in months. As new faces emerge within the Righteous Congregation, now the only thing holding this ancient empire together, so do new schemes and plots which threaten to undo everything the Emperor has built. The future of this great nation hangs on a knife-edge, a web of lies and deceit entangling those within the Emperor’s inner circle. With this new authority suddenly thrust upon them, can anyone be trusted? Victory, it seems, has eluded the people of Tinelia once again. The spectre of all-out war now looming ever closer as they await their enemy’s countermove. Nate, now a fully-fledged monster hunter, would rather not get involved. Fate, however, has other ideas. Nate’s dreams are overrun with portents of danger, of bloody, merciless battle and other, darker things whose names have been lost to time marching steadily closer with each passing day. On the cusp of a war the likes of which their world has never seen, Nate is sent on a desperate mission to rebuild the peace he had helped to shatter. While politicians bicker before the Judges, pleading their cases before these mighty custodians of law and order, in the far reaches of the north where the Old Gods once tread, a greater guardian begins to stir. A power once believed extinct now offers a chance to end this conflict before the world is torn apart in steel and smoke. It is up to Nate and his allies to traverse the frozen hellscape of the Great Wastes in pursuit of this ancient power. But they are not the only ones searching. How far will a man go for those he loves? To snatch victory from the hands of the enemy? On the blood-soaked battlefields of the south and the unforgiving wasteland of the north, Nate will soon find out.

Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
