Scott sat on the windowsill, drinking in the warm Sunday afternoon sunshine. The back of his head felt warm as he reached back to touch it. He opened one eye, stretched slightly, and looked at the clock. Four o’clock. Several hours to go until it was time. He closed the eye again and dozed in the intoxicating warmth.Scott wasn’t your normal boy. He was unusual in that he lived two very separate lives. Now, you may thing, 'well, that isn’t so unusual, many of us are different at school and at home'. But, well, Scott was certainly unusual. You see, he wasn’t always a boy. Or should I say, a human boy. Often, Scott became Scooter, a tan cat with light brown stripes. It hadn’t always been that way. For years, Scott was a normal boy, as normal as any boy can be.

Red took the journal and the small wooden box from beneath her mattress. William had entrusted the coin to her when he left for the summer. He had a job at a camp on a lake about an hour away, and he didn’t dare bring the coin with him. Instead of hiding it in his own room, he had entrusted it to Red. She sat down on her bed and opened the box. There was the old coin, sitting o...
