As a man being in many relationships and around different types of love, whether good or bad, I have learned that love is not always what it seems to be. I have been with gold-diggers, women with baby daddy drama, women that hate men but are lonely, women that truly love you, or people that are just miserable and treat you like crap. Although as a man I’ve gone through all kinds of ups and downs, there are also many women that struggle with the same situations and maybe three times over. I’ve also met women who continue to deal with men whom abuse them on a daily basis, suffer from jealous husbands who stalk them, men who loved them to death, or emotionally control them to the extent that they can’t even eat or think. When learning to love self, I seem to recognize individuals who either show unconditional love towards me or people who have a difficult time showing any kind of emotional love towards me at all. If we pay more attention, we would know that all love isn’t glamorous and in order to recognize the true secret of love, we must first love ourselves instead of putting so much emphasis on loving others. Well I hope as you read my unique book of poems on love, you are also enjoying the roller-coaster ride as it takes you through the unexpected twists and turns of love that so many of us hide in our daily battle of love. For the women and men who have found that perfect love I wish you many years of happiness and for others still searching for that love in their heart, always stay positive that your heart has a uniqueness for that special someone who will appreciate you very much. So remember it is never too late to love yourself and to love others that are willing to love you back.

‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

  • The Truth about A

In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides.
