'Tusculan Disputations' is a series of five books by Marcus Tullius Cicero, written around 45 BC. They take the form of dialogues held at Cicero’s villa in Tusculum, exploring different aspects of Stoic philosophy. The discussions cover topics such as the contempt of death, the endurance of pain, grief, mental disturbances, and what constitutes a virtuous life. Through reasoned argument and examples from history and mythology, Cicero presents a compelling case for the pursuit of wisdom and virtue as the path to happiness. This volume also includes Cicero’s treatises 'On the Nature of the Gods' and 'On the Commonwealth', offering further insight into his philosophical and political thought. 'On the Nature of the Gods' presents a discussion of various viewpoints regarding the existence and nature of the gods. 'On the Commonwealth' (De re publica) outlines Cicero’s vision for an ideal state, drawing on Roman history and political theory. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
