Turbulent Times takes place on the West Coast of North America and in south Florida. This fourth book in the series (beginning with The House of Many Windows and followed by The Spirit of Wallace Paine and The Haunting of Eveline Paine) is a study in how and why the characters had behaved and survived their traumas.Eveline Paine suffered from a supposed fugue state. This sent her to California with no one knowing of her whereabouts. Jonathon Bingham, a detective, tracked her down. Her life begins to unfold while in California in the company of Randolph Hearst, a newspaper tycoon. Eveline engages in an emotional meeting with her imprisoned mother and painful counseling experiences that reveal the reasons for her excessive behaviors. Other characters were also subjected to torments of their past through tragic experiences that brings understanding as to why they think and behave the way they had throughout their lives. Turbulent Times is a story of a family through the years that ends with tragic events that many families experience in society even today. The cover design is in memory of Doris Kane, watercolor artist.
