Nació el 14 de julio de 1848 en Tegucigalpa, ciudad en la que fallecería el 28 de mayo de 1893, a los 44 años. Considerado el ideólogo de las Reformas Liberales de Guatemala (gobierno de Justo Rufino Barrios) y de Honduras (administración de Marco Aurelio Soto). Escribió, entre varias obras, las biografías del general Morazán, de José Cecilio del Valle y del padre Reyes, así como ensayos sobre educación, política, cultura y economía.
