Enamorado de una joven chilena, busca excusas para que el editor jefe de la revista para la cual trabaja en Nueva York, le permita continuar en el país, involucrándose en el desarrollo de noticias relacionadas con una serie de acontecimientos dramáticos sucedidos durante ese año, como el terremoto y tsunami del 27 de febrero, el caso Karadima, y el rescate de los 33 mineros en Atacama.
