The objective of this study was to propose a treatment system for effluent from the washing of construction and demolition waste (CDW). To this end, the physical-chemical characterization of a batch of material and the effluent from washing in different proportions of water was carried out. A mass of the material was washed according to the criteria established in Brazilian Regulatory Standard MERCOSUR 46 of 2003, to determine the physical removal of powdery material (particles smaller than 75 µm), which impairs the quality of the mortar. The CDW was classified as fine aggregate, with a maximum characteristic size of 4.8 mm and an average fineness modulus of 2.77. For washing CDW in accordance with the specifications in the standard, there is no specific amount of water required to carry out the process. Thus, this study aimed to optimize this amount, obtaining an optimal RCD mass ratio for a water volume of 1.67:1.00. Subsequently, three treatment options were proposed for the effluent: sedimentation tank; sedimentation tank combined in series with a sand filter; coagulation, flocculation, and sedimentation processes.
