Il trattamento biologico delle acque reflue mediante lagune di aerazione rimuove gli inquinanti organici solubili e insolubili, l’azoto, il fosforo e il materiale inerte insolubile dalle acque reflue domestiche e industriali. La progettazione di lagune aerobiche dipende principalmente dal tasso di rimozione del BOD5, dalla temperatura in ingresso, dal livello di turbolenza nella laguna, dal tasso di trasferimento dell’ossigeno, dalla concentrazione di azoto, dai solidi sospesi e dalla presenza di alghe. Questo testo introduce i concetti fondamentali della biochimica e dei modelli cinetici di biodegradazione, seguiti dal trattamento biologico delle acque reflue, dalla progettazione di lagune aerobiche, di sedimentazione e di stabilizzazione, compreso il calcolo dei parametri di progettazione, la cinetica, la potenza dell’aeratore, il dimensionamento della laguna, la potenza dell’aeratore, la produzione di fanghi e le prestazioni con questo tipo di trattamento biologico.
