Con estos ensayos de los mas nombrados criticos de la obra de Pablo Neruda aqui reunidos, este libro pretende rindirle homenaje al gran critico de la obra del Premio Nobel chileno, Hernan Loyola. Algunos de ellos--los de Pedro Lastra, Jaime Concha, Patricia Poblete Alday, Claudio Rojas y Mario Valdovinos--se dedican a subrayar su importancia capital como docente en Chile o bien su enorme contribucion a los estudios nerudianos al mismo tiempo que destacan el lado personal: su aguda inteligencia, su generosidad, su humor, su ojo para el detalle, su calor humano, su heterodoxia en cuanto a lo academico, entre otras cosas. Los otros son estudios dedicados a la obra y sus alrededores. Abordan tales temas como la dialectica de la tierra y el cielo (Alain Sicard), el amor y la muerte en poesia nerudiana (Selena Millares), la correspondencia entre Dario Puccini y Neruda (Gabriele Morelli), las narraciones fantasticas del poeta (Dario Oses), el entrecruce de narrativas sobre un mismo impostor escritas por Pio Baroja, Jorge Luis Borges y Neruda (Luis Inigo-Madrigal) y la nocion de la democracia que tiene el vate en su etapa anarquista y vanguardista (Greg Dawes). Asi, si bien se trata de rendirle un homenaje al mayor conocedor de la obra de Neruda en el mundo, Hernan Loyola, tambien se quiere aportar nuevas lecturas de la obra del poeta chileno.
