Während ältere Untersuchungen eine kritische Sicht nahelegen, kommt die vorliegende Studie zu einem etwas optimistischeren Schluss. So lassen die aktuellen Analysen im ersten Teil dieses Buches keine allgemeingültigen negativen Auswirkungen mehr erkennen. Der zweite Teil zeigt auf, woran dies liegen dürfte - nämlich an den zunehmend geschickteren staatlichen Interventionen. Während transnationale Konzerne weiterhin in vielen Entwicklungsländern ökonomischen Schaden anrichten, sind doch in Fällen wie Südkorea, Malaysien und Indonesien diese negativen Auswirkungen durch sinnvolle politische Gegenmaßnahmen in ihr Gegenteil verkehrt worden.
