Une transition énergétique (ou transformation du système énergétique) désigne un changement structurel majeur dans l’approvisionnement et la consommation d’énergie au sein d’un système énergétique. Actuellement, une transition vers une énergie durable est en cours afin de limiter le changement climatique. La majeure partie de l’énergie durable est constituée d’énergies renouvelables. C’est pourquoi la transition énergétique est également appelée transition vers les énergies renouvelables . La transition actuelle vise à réduire rapidement et durablement les émissions de gaz à effet de serre liées à l’énergie, principalement en réduisant progressivement l’utilisation des combustibles fossiles et en convertissant autant de processus que possible à une alimentation en électricité à faible empreinte carbone.
