A região 'Europa de Leste' (REE) inclui todos os países pós-comunistas da Europa. Esta definição responde às realidades actuais, tal como os termos Europa Centro-Oriental e Europa do Sudeste, mais difundidos nos anos 90 do século XX. O problema científico da monografia reside na tentativa de provar que a análise objetiva do tema das reformas da Europa de Leste como um fenómeno complexo e ambíguo é possível através do prisma da transformação sistémica no processo de globalização. O tema da investigação é apresentado pela transformação sistémica na Europa de Leste. Foram obtidos resultados que têm inovação científica: provou-se que o sucesso das reformas no sistema regional internacional da Europa Oriental dependia principalmente dos factores externos do que dos internos; com base na abordagem complexa da vasta gama de problemas da vida política na REE, foi elaborado pela primeira vez o esquema de subordinação dos factores internos de transformação; além disso, provou-se a interdependência do potencial de transformação e das identidades da Europa Oriental.
