Matt Cooley, born in Georgia, makes his way to Central Texas after the Great War. He meets Enrique Mexia, who discovers cattle missing from his herd. Enrique thinks that a Ghost Indian around Phantom Hill maybe stealing his cattle. He employs Matt to search for an answer to the missing animals. Matt initiates a search and goes to Fort Griffin, Texas and to Los Palos, New Mexico Territory. Matt finds and deals with the perpetrators. Mexia is pleased. He asks Matt to escort his gifted daughter to 'Nu Aulens' to be enrolled in the Academy. On the way Matt meets a strange man that calls him out.
