Diese Arbeit entstand während ihres Grundstudiums in Tourismus an der UFPA (2002/2006), als die Autorin als Stipendiatin an einem von Prof. Dr. Silvia Helena Cruz koordinierten Projekt in der handwerklichen Fischereigemeinschaft von Vila do Pesqueiro Soure/Marajó arbeitete, und aufgrund ihrer Erfahrungen in dieser Gemeinschaft begann die Autorin, sich für die Forschungsrichtung Kultur, immaterielles Erbe und traditionelle Bevölkerungen zu interessieren. In diesem Sinne ist diese Arbeit das Ergebnis der Dissertation, die im Rahmen des Masterstudiengangs Kultur und Tourismus der UESC (2012) unter der Betreuung von Prof. Dr. Roque Pinto S. Santos entstanden ist und deren Gegenstand die handwerklichen Fischereigemeinden der Ilha do Tanque im Süden von Bahia sind.
