Titin and the Forest Beast is a fictional story set in a rural community in Teso, Uganda. it is based on a fable told by adults to children to deter them from wondering away from home alone and to make them obey adults and do their chores. The story narrates the adventures of Titin a 9-year old girl who wakes up late one morning and has to walk to school alone through the forest where the fabled beast is supposed to live. The story gives readers a glimpse into African folklore and enables them to see the impact of such fables on children through the eyes and mind of a child. It’s also attempt to preserve African heritage in written format. The book is suitable for children between the ages of 6-12 but I hope that all who read it will find it interesting. I hope that young and adult readers alike will welcome the opportunity to learn from this story as they experience Titin’s eventful trip to school one fine morning.
