The Hebrew word Timshel—Thou Mayest—gives one a choice. The word loosely translated reminds us that we can choose our behavior. We can choose between good and evil, right or wrong. We can choose how we live. Timshel has been a beacon for me ever since I discovered it in John Steinbeck’s novel, East of Eden. It has become the most powerful word of my life.The hummingbird spirit animal symbolizes enjoyment of life and lightness of being. The hummingbird is my totem, lifting up negativity wherever it creeps in. This totem animal encourages adaptability, tenacity and resiliency while keeping an optimistic outlook.
