Time In Head and Heart brings a fusion of words in the form of short stories and songs; brought to life in poetry. These words were written with a floetry and fluidity like running water, or the crashing of waves breaking at shore quality, that hopefully will capture, provoke, stir and tease the heart and mind. Some will have you covering mouth and pointing fingers, wishing you had the nerve to give voice to the exact words. Hopefully it is nourishment that leaves you reminiscing of innocence; longing for a kinder time, enveloping you like a loving grandma’s favourite scent when you think the world has been unkind. Or an avenging mama’s voice saying whatever it needs to gain you that ounce of fulfilment/ your truth. They are a quirky mixture and blend of posh and street-ghetto-lyrics, tinged with a hearty dose of the Caribbean in the regal majesty of the many females. Despite the blows and harsh words endured to raise children, and build their palaces on bare necessities of blood, sweat, and tears. Not to forget the healthy doses of ignorance; criticism and belittling, to continuous zaps of being ignored for their contribution on a second by second basis. Where many are just giving up, or converting; ignoring off-spring and self, or falling into the tight neck of a bottle...So these poems are the universal hailing/ a call to spirits, to form a production/ a coming together once again to breathe HOPE. We need more than just dialogue to encourage the many faltering relationships; mother and child, husband and wife, friends hoping to become lovers, playhouse to playground mates, employer and employee...Silence that loud proclamation that has taken wings, crippling growth, and hiding potential for LOVE and RESPECT. CARING in its simplest form.

Originally written by hand, the author has traversed a fine line betw...

  • Polishing the Silver
    Jennifer Chrystie
‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
