The fourth book in the Barsoom series and a science fantasy, Thuvia, Maid of Mars is written by American author Edgar Rice Burroughs. The protagonists of the previous three novels in the series, John Carter and Dejah Thoris are no longer the main characters in this book; instead, it is their son, Carthoris. The story starts with Carthoris who is in love with Thuvia. Unfortunately, Kulan Tith, Jeddak of Kaol, has Thuvia’s pledge. Now the only thing that can end a man and woman’s engagement is death. Carthoris finds himself in a difficult situation as a result of this circumstance. Thuvia experiences the typical Burroughsian heroine’s destiny of being abducted and in need of rescue, so Carthoris sets out to find the love of his life.
