Pepper is a mouse currently for sale in a pet store. Right after finding his true love, they are both taken to an animal testing facility, where they witness and experience horrible things. A greyhound and a rabbit end up at the same facility, and together they form a plan to escape. Tragedy lurks when Pepper’s girlfriend doesn’t make it through a series of testing, and he vows to save two lives in order to make up for hers. He does this by giving himself up to science. His sacrifice was enough to save Flower and Loppy, the other two animals who share the book. The two of them make a daring escape and eventually find a loving home.
