《遊踪掠影話西東》是筆者從1998年至2013年間，去中國與美國之外地區旅行的遊記。內容除了簡短地介紹該地區的歷史人文與地理風貌之外，也記錄了一處處個別的景點與筆者當時之觀感。 書中的旅遊地區包括了歐洲、亞洲、非洲與南美諸地。有文明古國，也有科技新邦，有發展中的第三世界，也有多方面領尖的先進國家。各地迥然不同的歷史人文，豐富多彩的地貌風物，與大相迴異的文化種族，構成了一幅幅難忘的畫面。 筆者每次旅遊回來後，按照每日的行程表寫下一篇詳細的遊記已成為十數年來的慣例。主要是為了給自己留下一份備忘錄。本書匯集的一篇篇短文皆是取自這些年累積下來一本本的遊記。對筆者而言，是自己的一部旅遊記錄。對有興趣參閱，或以後有計劃去那些地方遊覽的人，書中的描繪觀感也可被視作一些足以徵信的第一手參考資料吧。 夏曙芳，1939年出生於日寇侵華的烽火歲月。在重慶、貴陽度過了幼年。在國共內戰的輾轉播遷中度過了童年。1949年隨父母離開中國大陸，在澳門培道女中附小畢業。1951年遷至台灣，在北一女，東海大學完成了中學與大學教育。1962年隨著那時的一股'留學潮'到美國留學。先後獲田納西州范德堡大學資訊與圖書館學、紐約州聖若望大學政府與政治學碩士學位。後由留學而定居。絕大部分的任職生涯是在紐約聖若望大學度過，為該校終生教授，並曾獲'傑出成就'獎 （Faculty Outstanding Achievement Award）。全職工作了三十六年後退休。 平生喜好文藝旅遊。2012年著有多次去中國旅遊的觀感記錄《遊子心，故土情：大江南北點點踪》一書。現居美國馬里蘭州。 3
