Can you imagine being a helpless child, witnessing your murder continuously over and over, but your body is present in reality?Author of Top Selling Book Voiceless Voices' Words from a Broken Heart & Renewed Soul, Khalilah Purnell has done it again with her new book, titled 'Thorns of a Rose' Pain to Purpose. Thorns of A Rose is a Memoir about the life of Khalilah Purnell. It serves as a narration of the road the author had to travel on her journey from Pain to purpose, from being molested, and physically abused by her mother’s boyfriend from 8-12 years of age, the drug addiction of her mother, and being abandoned by her mother at a young age, as her mother chose drugs and a man over her children. By 5th grade, Khalilah knew everything there is to know about sex with someone of the opposite sex. She endured things no child ever should have to experience. Although leaving the devil’s formation and control was what she needed, she worried about the safety of her younger brother, and what would happen to him if she left. Would he start touching on her brother? Beating her brother? Khalilah turned to promiscuity for many years after being kicked out of the house that was supposed to be home and went to live with her father’s sister in another part of the city of Philly, where she raised her niece, alongside her own three girls. Growing up, although safe at the home of her aunt, Khalilah was filled with anger, resentment, bitterness, worry, depression, hate, and many other emotions throughout her teenage, young adult, and adult years of her life, even after giving birth to her only child. No one knew that she was being molested, only physically abused, because she was too afraid to disclose that information to anyone out of fear of what would happen to her until she was in a different state many years later. Thorns of a Rose is a reality in the life of Author Khalilah Purnell, and how her life was able to change after the molestation, pain, betrayal, abandonment, years of silent tears, fake smiles, suicide attempts, self-hate, lies, promiscuity, hurting others, and more. God stepped in right on time and blessed her life with purpose. A purpose that was for herself, but a purpose that was also greater than herself. Thorns of A Rose serves as a voice of healing for the author because now she can speak freely and tell her testimony, but it also serves as a voice and path to healing for other youth and adults who are going through or has gone through a similar story to the author, or one we could never imagine. It also serves as an eye-opener for parents who may not know the signs of their child being touched or abused. Thorns of A Rose is a fact-based story that shows the thoughts of how a Rose filled with thorns was able to bloom and continues to grow, with an unlocked heart, with purpose.
