Thorney is a historical fiction novel written by Alexander Black and published in 1913. The story is set in 11th century England and follows the life of a young Saxon named Leofric who is forced to flee his home after the Norman Conquest. Leofric makes his way to the town of Thorney, where he becomes a monk and begins to rebuild his life. As Leofric adjusts to his new life, he becomes involved in the political and religious struggles of the time. He forms close relationships with the other monks at Thorney Abbey, including the abbot, who becomes a mentor to him. Leofric also becomes involved with Lady Godiva, the wife of the Earl of Mercia, who is fighting against the Norman invaders.
