These Eyes Know of Heroes and Horrors: This book tells of the amazing and fun-filled experiences I had growing up in a large family and the terrible abuse I suffered as a child and young adult. It also talks about the wonderful experiences I enjoyed in elementary, high school and college. Also, of the fantastic friendships I had throughout these years and how they helped me overcome the abusive treatment I received. It also tells of my transition after graduating from college and venturing from the east coast to California to attend graduate school and the amazing people I meet who helped me survive this experience. However, the most important aspect of this book tells of the many amazing, tragic, gruesome and incredible stories I covered as a television station news photographer. These stories included some of the worst heinous crimes, natural disasters and accidents imaginable. But, it also talks about the amazing legendary celebrities, entertainers, actors, political leaders, educators, authors, sports figures and musicians I did stories on and how I was befriended by each of them, from Michael Jordan to Lena Horne. Finally, it tells of how my life was profoundly affected by an experience I encountered in a special education classroom filled with children which forever changed my life and made helping them my number one priority. AUTHOR BIOKen Green was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, along with his seven brothers and three sisters. They had always been a close-knit family and enjoyed many years of great family fun. During his years at Westinghouse High School and the University of Pittsburgh he was an active in various student organizations; the Erkons Social Club, the University Theatre Department, the Pittsburgh Black Theatre Dance Ensemble and Theatre Urge. He also worked among many wonderful teachers and students while there including the legendary choreographer, Mr. Bob Johnson, Dr. Curtiss Porter and the Pulitzer Prize winning author and playwright, Mr. August Wilson. He attended Graduate School at CSU-Fresno and became an active member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated (Gamma Xi and Epsilon Delta Sigma Chapters). He was employed by the Walt Disney Family owned (Retlaw Broadcasting Corporation) television station KJEO-TV (ABC) as a News Photographer. He also worked for radio stations (KFIG, KMGX, KFRY, KFRE) in advertising and marketing. After many wonderful years in the theater, television, radio and the movie industry, he got involved with developing Non-Public Special Education schools for children diagnosed as Severely Emotionally Disturbed and Specific Learning Disordered. This decision was due to an experience he had while visiting his wife’s special education classroom which forever changed his life. After this experience he decided to pursue a doctorate degree in Education Administration. He also helped develop four State-certified, Non-Public Special Education schools. As an Education Consultant and Program Administrator, working with social service agencies, schools and the courts, he saw that adults with learning disorders needed as much help as children. Therefore, he enrolled and completed the Adult Education Teacher Credentialing Program at U.C. Berkeley. At present, he teaches GED Prep classes at various adult education programs in California.
