At some time in our lives, some of us face hardships and heartaches and are forced to confront devastating tragedies that completely change who we become. The decisions we make at that time have a profound effect on the rest of our lives. Sam Gaylord will take us from the foothills of Southern Indiana to the steamy jungles of Vietnam-from the rice paddies near the South China Sea to the jungle near the DMZ.However, do not mistake this for just another book about Vietnam. Sam Gaylord grew up in the heartland of America. He believed in the American flag, apple pie, and 'God Bless the USA.' As a young man, he believed in and trusted the government, joined the United States Marines, and served in Vietnam. He wanted to fight for his country like his dad and uncles. Soon after arriving in Vietnam, he realized that his country had betrayed him. This is his story.
