The Young Rajah is a novel written by W.H.G. Kingston. It is a story set in India during the time of British colonial rule. The protagonist of the story is a young Indian prince named Duleep Singh, who is the last Maharaja of the Sikh Empire. The novel follows Duleep’s journey as he is taken away from his homeland and forced to live in England as a ward of the British government. As Duleep grows up in England, he struggles to adapt to his new surroundings and to reconcile his Indian heritage with his British education. He faces many challenges, including racism and discrimination, as well as pressure from his British guardians to renounce his Sikh faith and embrace Christianity. Despite these difficulties, Duleep remains determined to reclaim his rightful place as the ruler of his people. With the help of his loyal Indian companions and a few sympathetic British allies, he embarks on a mission to regain his throne and restore his people’s dignity. Along the way, he must confront his own inner demons and learn to navigate the complex politics of colonial India. The Young Rajah is a compelling tale of identity, culture, and power, told against the backdrop of a fascinating historical period. It offers a nuanced perspective on the legacy of British colonialism in India and the enduring struggles of the Indian people for self-determination and independence.''Oh, no!'' he replied; ''they are as bad as they can be; and the resident will put them all to rights when he arrives, and save me a vast amount of trouble. In the meantime you may amuse yourselves with hunting. There must be an abundance of game in the neighbourhood, as the tigers alone, I am told, carry off at least a dozen peasants a week; and there are deer, bears, and wild boars without number. You will find it a perfect huntsman’s paradise.''This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.        “Some shows have warnings for strobe lights. Some have them for loud gunshots.  Some for smoke.   MISSISSIPPI GODDAMN, a new play by Jonathan Norton should have one for intensity.   Granted, anyone attending a play about civil rights pioneer Medgar Evers set in 1963 Jackson, Mississippi, should expect some strife. Blood in the battle for racial equality is no surprise, but f...

“It seems to me that for fertility in droll inventions, the perpetual outpouring of unforeseen misunderstandings, for the inexhaustible gaiety of dialogue, Feydeau’s new play is superior to everything he’s written so far. The most astonishing thing is the sureness with which everything is controlled, explained, justified, in the most extravagant buffoonery. The cross-purpose...
