After ten years away, Aluna returns home a grown woman. She reconnects with Antonio, though he is now to marry another woman. Aluna’s old adversary – Miguel di Batista – has returned from the New World, bringing with him a cargo of slaves. Miguel has one of the old women burned as a witch. But the old woman wears a green gem similar to the one Aluna once wore and a strange connection is made between the woman and Aluna. Miguel notices the gem as well, recognizes the power it contains, and decides he wants one for himself.
