Robert Burns (1759 -1796) was known as the Bard. He is Scotland’s most famous poet. Burns wrote in the Scottish language as well as in English. He was a leader in the Romantic movement and after his death he was an inspiration to the liberalism and socialism movements. Auld Lang Syne was written by Burns. Burns used his knowledge of classical, Biblical and English literature to draw inspiration for his poetry.
