On a rainy night, Chiara unexpectedly appears at Octávio’s door, soaked through and wearing an old coat that once belonged to him. Before dawn, she leaves. Behind, she leaves six pages from the manuscript Octávio is writing about the two of them, a childhood photograph cut with scissors, and a correction in the margin containing only three words: 'that’s not how it happened.'Between Porto, Milan, and Lake Como, the past returns through Chiara, Cecilia, and Irene, three women who refuse to occupy the roles he has assigned them. A night remembered in different ways, an incomplete photograph, a signature with consequences that reach far beyond a love story, and a family in which affection, wealth, and power have learned to speak the same language. Each new revelation seems to bring him closer to the truth. Each correction makes that truth less comfortable. Even the memories that once seemed beyond dispute begin to split into incompatible versions.Sometimes, all that remains is to accept that that’s not how it happened.
