Jim O’Driscoll was born in a small island off the coast of Ireland and emigrated with his family to an intimate Maryland town in the 1930s. Though his mother and siblings returned to Cape Clear, Jim decided to stay with his father in America where he built a quiet but content life for himself. Now in his 60s, Jim must return to his first home to mourn the death of his younger brother who was his only surviving family. As Jim tries to come to terms with this loss and decide what he’ll do with the old family home, his witchy neighbour persuades him to partake in the old traditions. Though Jim has never been particularly spiritual and is sceptical of these rituals, on Oíche Shamhna, or All Hallow’s Eve, in 1989, Jim discovers he may yet have a second chance to put things right with his brother.
