The Underdogs was originally published in serial form in El Paso del Norte in 1915. The story takes place during the Mexican Revolution. Demetrio Macías is the leader of a group fighting against the federal forces. Victoriano Huerta is an accomplished marksman who fights to change his country, but by the end of the novel he is not sure why he keeps on fighting. He sees his actions as having made little difference.
