The story takes us back to the 1970s in Patagonia during the period of the dictatorship of the generals and the desaparecidos. Helena, an elementary school teacher who is a member of the Communist Party, leaves Buenos Aires to seek refuge in a remote corner of the Andes, where she can hide from the roundups carried out by the regime’s security forces. In Trevelin, a small town nestled in the mountains, in the valley colonized by the Welsh, she resumes teaching a class made up of the children of the settlers and the children of the Mapuche community. Her new life is peaceful and pleasant. She falls in love with the son of the priest of the nearby Orthodox Church and finds joy in her friendships with the indigenous people. However, her life is threatened by former Nazi leaders who arrived in the area after the war and became the new masters, having established a parallel state. Being the daughter of a Jewish father makes her a coveted target, and she will only be able to save herself through a very unusual exchange.
