Sept 1/2005, seemed to be a day like any other. I had just breast fed, given my newborn baby a bath, put his sleeper on and laid him down to sleep. Seconds later, I heard a heavy knock at the basement door. To my surprise, as I open the door, there stood 2 men casually dressed with badges in hand. 'Ma’am, you have to come with us, your boyfriend had just been arrested. I told them I had a newborn baby and that I didn’t want to go. 'Ma’am, you have no rights to refuse and you have to come with us.' I was brought to the police station, locked in a small cold room with my newborn son. Interrogated for hours. We just started our life together with a baby added to the equation just 28 days prior. Nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to experience.
