Freddie (Fredericka Meyer) BFF of Gemma McWyntr owner of Serendipity, a small ranch of Llamas. Moved from her very vocal dad who thought that anyone who did not raise cattle like a proper rancher was out of their mind, but mom approved as she loved kitting with the beautiful yarns from the Llamas.  Freddie was and will be the BFF to Gemma through thick and thin since grade school it was as if they should have been sisters. Growing up in the beautiful country, riding together when they could and sitting at night beside a campfire when Freddie stayed over. Listening to the stories Grandpa McWyntr and later Pops McWyntr told around the campfire was something that Freddie thought was special. She had two brothers and other girls who would (or could) not understand the tall blonde when she expounded her ideas.  Gemma, of course, would either call her on it or have a hardy laugh.  Freddie came to Gemma’s rescue when five men appeared one February morning. Five Scottish warriors from a different time. No joke. And between the two of them, crossing their fingers that the men not turn violent and stay and be nice and cooperate and learn that this was not the place they came from and that no English jerks would be running out of the trees at any time and that......  Whew.  So many things.  And how to not get all pink-faced or jaw-dropping when seeing the men with no shirts and all - those - muscles.....  OK, back to being normal again here.  Freddie found a list of her own troubles and for some reason, one man latched on her and decided to make her life hell. First by showing up at her ranch. By making lewd suggestions. By disturbing not only her but other ranch wives (even married), and being more than a pest but - doing it within the law. So much for putting him in his place. Then, the day he crossed the line.

Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
