The grand design of this volume is to exhibit, under the beautiful symbol of the Star of Bethlehem, the Savior in His personal and mediatorial glory; and to guide the reader to Him as the Lamb of God, who alone can take away sin. While dwelling on the beauty, excellence, and amiableness of Christ, His great atoning work on Calvary has been solicitously held forth, in its all-sufficiency, and as the only hope of a lost world as bringing glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will towards men. It has been the author’s aim to present the subject in a scriptural point of view, carefully regarding the divine declaration- ’To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.’ It is believed that the doctrines contained in the work are in accordance with the teachings of divine revelation; and that they will, consequently be cordially received by Christians of all evangelical denominations- by all who love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. 3
