The Slave King is a novel written by Victor Marie Hugo, originally published in 1833 as part of his work, Bug Jargal. The story is set in the late 18th century on the island of Saint-Domingue (now Haiti) during the time of the French Revolution. The main character, Pierrot, is a young slave who is sold to a cruel plantation owner named Monsieur de la Vigne. Pierrot is determined to escape his life of slavery and join the Haitian rebellion against the French. The novel follows Pierrot’s journey as he becomes a leader of the rebellion and earns the title of ''The Slave King.'' Along the way, he meets a young woman named Marie, who becomes his ally and love interest. The two of them work together to fight against the oppression of the French plantation owners and their army. The Slave King is a powerful story of love, freedom, and the fight for justice. It explores themes of slavery, colonialism, and the struggle for independence. The novel is a classic work of French literature and is considered an important piece of historical fiction. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
