Why this book, The Search of God: Are Philosophers (Philosophoi) Friends of God (Theophiloi)? We want to research the ongoing search for one God from the philosophical point of view. Are authentic philosophers lovers or haters of God? To do this, in part one of this reflection, we will give the historical views of the one God. In this part, we will highlight several religious and philosophical doctrines and opinions with regard to the one God. In part two, we will propose a tentative explanation of the one God. The arguments for the existence of God and the nature of God are open to ongoing discussion and contribution. The criticisms of monotheism in part three reflect the historical philosophical trend opposing the prominent monotheistic tendency of humanity. The last part is basically an assessment of this continuous quest for the one God, the Being which is the origin and destination of humankind. The conclusion will answer the main question by making a distinction between authentic philosophers or ’lovers of wisdom’ (theophiloi) and pseudo-philosophers or sophists (sophistēs). Seekers of true ’wisdom’ (sophia) or ’Theophiloi’ tend to be mutually inclusive.
