Author Malcolm Bruce has six novels to his credit, all based in or around Scarborough. In the mid-seventies he worked at the Naval Ordnance Establishment in Sheffield from where he learned of an amazing connection between the ships of the German High Seas Fleet of the First World War and our lives today. This is his first factual book about the Scarborough bombardment and is the written version of a talk he’s been doing for the last eighteen months. In this slim volume he explains the connection, and hopefully puts forward a realistic theory, about the number of ’dud’ shells fired into Scarborough during the bombardment of 1914.Malcolm takes us on through the internment of the German fleet at Scapa Flow in 1919 and what happened afterwards, bringing the story right up to today.
