This volume is essential reading for anyone interested in the rural landscape of Roman Sussex. It describes the work of the Mid Sussex Field Archaeological Team (MSFAT) on the Roman roadside settlement at Hassocks, West Sussex, and other sites in its surrounding landscape. It covers the previously unpublished excavations and surveys undertaken by MSFAT between 1989 and 2005, and pulls together information from antiquarian and museum sources, as well as work undertaken by other archaeologists and more up to date commercial-led projects. The volume provides a picture of Roman Hassocks, located at the junction of two important Roman roads, together with the villas, farmsteads and other sites in its hinterland and looks at the subsequent transition into the Saxon period. 6
