In this collection of poems, The Road, So Long, written over a thirty year period, Paul Bethune chronicles his quest for love, fulfillment, and meaning. As the title suggests, the road is marked with many detours, pitfalls, and challenges along the way to be overcome. For the poet, these come in day-to-day experiences of joys, sorrows, exaltations, and tribulations recounted in poems that are at times reflective, direct, passionate, and searingly honest. Time brings wisdom and a growing awareness of what he wants out of life. With the realization his quest is to the heart, fate smiles on him, his longing fulfilled. Ultimately the journey and the poems serve as a poignant reminder that life may take us in many directions but love is the way home.
