The Pseudolus of Plautus is a play written by the Roman playwright Titus Maccius Plautus, featuring the character Pseudolus as the protagonist. The play is a comedy set in ancient Greece, and follows the story of Pseudolus, a cunning and resourceful slave who seeks to win his freedom by helping his young master, Calidorus, win the heart of his love interest, Phoenicium. Pseudolus devises a series of elaborate schemes and tricks to outsmart his master’s father, Ballio, a greedy and unscrupulous slave dealer who has already sold Phoenicium to a rival suitor. Along the way, Pseudolus enlists the help of other slaves and characters, including the hapless and bumbling Hysterium, to carry out his plans. The play is known for its witty dialogue, fast-paced action, and clever plot twists, and is considered one of Plautus’ most popular and enduring works. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
