Its protagonist, Professor Godfrey St. Peter, a man in his 50’s, is living what would seem a successful and happy life. He has attained professional success in academia and has a loving family. Despite all this, he is experiencing a profound disappointment with life and is trying to find a deeper meaning to his existence. Godfery’s existential dilemmas are universal.
