The Pro Sports Guidebook

Pro Sports Guidebook: World Heritage Sports Almanac 2027 is a month-by-month guide to the traditional, indigenous, folk, historic and revived sports expected to take place around the world during 2027.From mass football in Britain and mounted archery in Japan to Central Asian buzkashi, Korean ssireum, Polynesian strength sports, Moroccan Tbourida, Argentine gaucho competitions and Peru’s Takanakuy, the almanac explores an extraordinary range of sporting traditions whose importance extends beyond the immediate result of a contest.Organised from January to December, each monthly section introduces the major heritage-sport activity expected during the period before presenting a chronological diary of competitions, festivals and traditional sporting gatherings. Regional maps show where events take place, while a specially selected featured heritage sport receives extended coverage examining its rules, history, equipment, cultural setting and continuing significance. The book deliberately takes a broad approach to sporting heritage. Alongside formally organised competitions and established championships are village games, indigenous sports, working skills transformed into competition, ceremonial contests, mounted traditions, folk football, wrestling, strength sports, racing and festival-based physical culture. Some traditions have survived continuously for generations, while others have been formalised, revived or adapted for contemporary competition.Featured traditions include Haxey Hood, Royal Shrovetide Football, Buzkashi, Yabusame, Laço Comprido, Ssireum, Tū’aro Mā’ohi, Tbourida, South African Indigenous Games, the Golden Eagle Festival, Gaucho Equestrian Games and Takanakuy.Designed as a forward-looking almanac rather than a retrospective annual, the book focuses on the sporting year ahead. Confirmed 2027 dates are distinguished from events whose final programmes had not yet been formally announced at the time of research, allowing readers to understand both the established calendar and areas where schedules remain provisional. With extensive black-and-white illustrations, maps, a Heritage Sports Directory and specialist glossary, the World Heritage Sports Almanac 2027 is intended for readers interested in sport, cultural traditions, sporting history, unusual competitions and the enormous variety of ways communities around the world continue to compete.
