The Piece You Have Right Now: A Therapist’s Lessons on Love, Pain, Hope, and Being PresentThis book invites you to stay present as you examine your stories. The Piece You Have Right Now is a testament to our stories. The trigger of his own personal medical crisis led Dr. O’Neill to write these stories, which he has shared many times at conferences and when sitting with clients. Starting with peach cobbler and ending with bruised peaches, this book takes you on a journey through mentalizing (metalizing?), hope, pain from an evil mandoline, a tragic visit to the vet, smelly feet, failed parenting, and so much more. Grounded in clinical experience, The Piece You Have Right Now is straightforward about how we heal through understanding, presence, and change. Over 24 chapters, this book explores many themes of love, pain, hope, and presence through humor, seriousness, love, and curiosity. At the end of each chapter, there are questions designed to help you reflect on your own stories, and define your own path. 'No peach with a bruise is completely broken.'Dr. O’Neill has been a therapist for over thirty-five years. He spent 16 years working at The Menninger Clinic and 12 years directing the mental health program for The Houston Astros and Major League Baseball’s Umpire Development Program. He’s been a college professor for over 20 years. As a therapist, he has learned that we all have stories to tell.
