Traveling teachers, rabbis, and philosophers would use short narratives and relatable, everyday examples-much like parables-to capture an audience’s attention and illustrate deeper principles in a memorable way. These oral traditions fit particularly well in an era where most people could not read or write, and where strong verbal communication was essential for passing on wisdom. T hus, Jesus’ use of parables was neither unusual nor out of place for His time. What distinguishes His parables is that they have miraculously endured, shaping generations of believers and inquirers while offering vivid lessons on compassion, forgiveness, and faith. Jesus often drew on everyday images-seeds, vineyards, and household items-to convey deeper truths about living a life of integrity, love, and purpose.
