In ancient Greek mythology, Pandora is the first mortal woman; a rough equivalent of the Christian Eve. Like Eve, she loosed upon the world all manner of evil. The first part of the novel’s title, Pandora, derives from this premise. The second part, Paradox, implies incongruity: what was unleashed may not be evil, at least not entirely evil. The Pandora Paradox is a story about the manipulation of human sexual behavior. An experimental drug to treat female frigidity is the subject of a trial study. It quickly becomes evident that this new drug is little more than an aphrodisiac. A powerful aphrodisiac. We see what happens when the boundaries are removed. The benefits - and consequences - of unrestrained carnal desire coupled with extraordinary sexual pleasure. To be sure, this is a serious literary work, not some story filled with gratuitous sex. The explicit descriptions of the sexual encounters are essential to convey the profound effects of the drug on the characters’ lives and the potential existential impact on society as a whole. The first half of the narrative sets up the murder mystery that dominates the latter half. The reader will find some of the characters a bit quirky, others quite staid; all of them interesting. By design, the story is both entertaining and provocative. If you are not offended by sexually explicit language (which will be frequently encountered throughout this novel) you can look forward to a truly unique and satisfying reading experience
