A Pageturner must learn skills through trials, diving into the assigned books, all of which leads to a battle with Scadorath-the master manipulator behind every literary villain. He seeks to obliterate stories and their characters from history, taking civilization and society down with them. And he is determined to stop Gerty from succeeding. As Gerty begins her trials, the library chooses Treasure Island for Gerty’s first book, but the book is more at risk of falling apart than her grandma had supposed. And worse yet, she has an encounter with Scadorath, which was NOT supposed to happen.
